Playing the Drums

Well, the picture to the left isn´t really authentical in that context. Of course, it´s me playing the drums. But having learned this for 10 years now at the music schools of Leoben and Mautern, sheet music usually isn´t necessary for me anymore. Nevertheless, there is an exception, for sure, for the annual musical of the first and second grades of our school, in the Orchestra of which I have helped playing the drums two times now.

Concerning the "tools" I use, a musical also imposes different requirements than Hard Rock. Personally, I like  the latter more, but again there are exceptions if I´m allowed to play in front of an audience. Just some indications in form of non-musical notes are kind of practical.

The following is a quotation of a statement by the leader of our school band: "It´s better to have a bad musician with a pencil as a band member than a good one without." Well, the next gig is when everybody will come to know that ;)

Now that I´ve also mentioned the school band, here´s some more info on that. Originally, a music teacher, coincidentally the music teacher of my brother, came up with the idea of founding a school band, when I was in the fifth grade. Evidently he knew of me playing the drums - and it wasn´t a long time until I became a founder member, and even the last one remaining. Our teacher moved to another school after three years, and so I became the last remaining founder member during my last year at the school. After all, I seem to have "put-up" with for quite a while, seeing that we played with different members every year.

On a side note, it was also my job to get the sound right during rehearsals. Whereas I left the mixer for somebody else to take care of during my time with the school band, nowadays, with my own band, the mixer has practically become a part of my drum set.

As I have just mentioned, I´m now playing in my own band - (almost) anything, from Country to Pop and Rock and sometimes even a little bit of Heavy Metal. For anyone interested, here´s the link to Blind Session´s page.
